June Walk - The British Settlement
Featured Event
Wed 7th June 2017
Check-in from 9.45 am for a prompt 10 am start.
Sign Up finished on Mon 5 Jun 2017 This is a members-only event (30rmb), out-of-town visitors may attend (50rmb) if places are available. All proceeds are donated to the Brits Abroad Shanghai charities.

After Shanghai was opened up to foreign trade in 1842, the first self-governing “concession" was granted to the British in 1843, followed by the concession to the French four years later. The British settled by the Huangpu River and by Suzhou Creek, where the oldest western structure on The Bund still stands. This is an opportunity for some members to discover the beginnings of the British in Shanghai, for others a chance to revisit and see progress in the preservation and development projects.

There will be options for refreshments at the end of the walk.

As always, following the event, the notes for this walk will be posted on the Brits Abroad website (Home/For Members/Walks).
